The BNF

The British National Formulary (BNF) is the essential guide to medicine, used in 129 countries worldwide, and well known by the thousands of NHS staff that use it daily. In 2015 it was decided to restructure and redesign the text of the printed version of the BNF as the older design could not cope with new therapies and new ways of using drugs.

The revised structure needs to work within digital and print products, and the core challenge of the redesign was making the text explicitly clear, but keeping the extent as short as possible to save on production costs. A detailed design specification ensures the book can be constantly updated and new design features added as they are needed.
